Iontophoresis is the method of facilitating the transfer of ions by electrical potential into soft tissues for therapeutic purposes. Iontophoresis is a modality for drug delivery in certain conditions. This type of therapy can be administered by chiropractors and is a fast way of achieving rapid resolution of inflammation. Iontophoresis introduces medications to the specific site of injury. Dr. Moore will work with your Medical Doctor to get a prescription for the proper medication then use a an iontopatch to apply the medication to the affected area. The iontopatch allows for gradual application of the medication typically over a 8-12 hour period.
Inflammatory conditions such as tendonitis, sprains and bursitis are often treated using iontophoresis. Steroids such as dexamethasone are often administered using iontophoresis in these disorders. This procedure is relatively safe and painless and is performed by Dr. Moore. It usually requires three to five treatments.
